what’s up guys Cara Cory here and
welcome to today’s video where I am
going to take you on a tour of my home
gem and share with you guys how you can
also make your own home gym for less
than five hundred dollars so I’m going
to share with you guys everything that
we have here under five hundred dollars
and also how you can use it to get full
body at workout amazing workouts
we’ve been quarantined now for at least
a month for most of us and so I’ve been
doing my homework outs and have had no
issues getting sore and feeling like I’m
making progress so let’s go Jim
[Music]
welcome to my baseman Jim all right guys
if you have a basement I think it’s
awesome we were never utilizing our
basement beforehand so now this is a
great use of space zero dollars it’s
part of the house we just were not
utilizing if you don’t have a basement
though if you have a separate room maybe
something you use as an office your
living room who cares just find a space
where you feel like you have enough
space to do your movements get in a
little workout that’s gonna kind of
motivate you for me that was moving it
to the basement downstairs in a separate
area so that was really helpful for me
to just kind of get going
move into a different space I am gonna
do my best to link below some of the
items I’m sharing with you guys today if
not the exact item and alternative
that’s maybe even more cost-effective so
the first thing I’m going to share with
you is the most expensive in our home
gym it was probably one of the only
investments we actually made to beef up
our home gym during this time and that
was the Bowflex set of dumbbells that
you guys have likely seen me using on
the live workouts have been sharing with
you now there are different versions of
dumbbells that you can choose these ones
in particular go up to fifty two point
five and it’s really nice because you
just rotate it on both sides for
whatever weight you’re looking to use
and four minutes
because honestly I don’t really ever
choose to use dumbbells above 52.5 Jason
on the other hand probably could benefit
from some higher dumbbells but this was
great for just getting started so
depending on what level you’re at how
have you left this great here was worth
the investment instead of buying each
and every dumbbell set that would cost
way more so for this dumbbell the
Bowflex set together it was want to say
the Bowflex dumbbells were about 329 350
so I know that seems like a really high
cost but again depending on what you
need maybe you don’t need this variety
of weights you could just get a couple
sets of dumbbells but for us this really
hit the spot we can really do everything
we need with these dumbbells there may
be a little awkward for some certain
movements because of the length of them
but quite honestly you can get the job
done regardless there’s no exercise or
movement I’m limited with so this really
allows me to do whatever I need with a
set of dumbbells it’s great so if you
don’t need that multitude of weights and
you just feel like you could get by with
a couple sets of dumbbells and then do
that I have here very a very old pair of
dumbbells in five pounds and I also have
10 pounds because when I first started
working out I worked out mostly at home
and that’s all I really needed to feel
like I think that a good little workout
for my arms and back and things like
that so you’re usually gonna pay about
whatever the poundage is on the dumbbell
per dumbbell so it’s out of fives it’s
probably gonna cost you ten bucks
instead of tens is probably gonna cost
you twenty bucks so if you need to
invest that way and just get a set of
fives tens 15s you don’t have to have
every single dumbbell you would normally
in a gym just having access to a few
that you know are gonna help some of
those you know compound movements that
you normally do or your typical workouts
just grab a couple and you will be able
to get in a great workout with them
a lot of people ask me well what do I do
if I don’t have you know I normally
press 20s and I only have tens and then
really focus on your form and go higher
up you can still make progress in your
own home doing that you just have to
kind of work with what you had this may
not be necessary but if you guys are
like me I do like to take note of my
form look in the mirror see how things
are looking I find it can be motivating
for me this is just a cheap target
mirror like ten bucks it was upstairs in
my bathroom certainly you could spend
way more money and put in a giant mirror
get a huge one not necessary though you
can just have yourself a little mirror
that you can reference and kind of look
in the mirror when you’re lifting just
to check your form see how things are
looking
snap a selfie if you like and very cheap
to throw into the routine you don’t have
to freaking mirror your entire room it’s
not necessary it’s cool it’s badass if
you’re truly doing a full home gym but
to keep it cheap just grab a couple
cheap-ass mirrors full-length mirrors
from Target Amazon you name it the other
reason why I like utilizing the basement
and if you guys have access to that too
is the pole so that kind of hold the
house up these can be a great addition
for you guys to use during working out
so I do use it with the bands but I’ll
also use it with my dumbbells too
sometimes just grabbing a dumbbell and
doing like a shoulder lateral raise just
kind of puts the emphasis on the lats a
little bit different you can use the
pulls in a lot of different ways so if
you don’t have a pull in your basement
if you’re going outside to do a workout
maybe you live somewhere that’s much
more
you hold this time here than New York is
and can get outside and find a pole
wherever and utilize that there it’ll
give you a lot of different variations
for the bands that we’re going to talk
about so moving into bands these are
such an affordable yet super effective
addition for your workout so maybe you
don’t want to get dumbbells maybe you
can’t afford them grab yourself a set of
bands don’t feel like you can’t get a
good workout in with just bands cuz you
can check your ego I used to kind of
feel that way to like pin it’s just
bands I can’t get in a great workout I
feel like this has been so good
especially for me recovering from my
injury I’ve really been able to
strengthen my shoulder and just
strengthen different muscles and
stabilizer muscles that I wouldn’t
normally use for instance doing a
shoulder press if you will I was doing
these earlier today super hard I was
struggling more with these bands
shoulder presses that I was using his
dumbbells so this is an orange band I
probably need a lighter band quite
honestly but this is what I was doing
and just doing like shoulder presses
coming down can you see my arm Ashish
I’m doing this it is so hard it’s just
different and your body is not used to
it and there’s just so many different
ways that you can add the resistance
take the resistance away and
don’t monitor your progress still
monitor how you’re progressing are you
doing more reps are you making the
resistance a little bit tougher
you know just changing where you’re
gripping a band is gonna change that
resistant level so if you’re someone
who’s like yeah I really need to track
my numbers though on how much I’m
lifting and progressing you can do that
with the bands as well progress can be
made utilizing the same bands switching
it up with a lighter band a heavier band
or just simply changing the placement of
your hands on the band so we’ll try to
link these below the set of bands we got
has been a game changer we have
different levels of resistance here the
green one being the lighter one I use
this for all different kinds of things
we’ll place it on the pole if you don’t
have a pole you can you can use it
without a pole to you guys but you can
do biceps against a pole triceps as
while I was doing triceps today you know
and you can grab at a number of
different ways to to really kind of
neutral prep where I was doing them like
this too which is I know what I love
about the bands that almost offers you
kind of more flexibility and variation
with your hand placement and really how
you’re hitting each and every muscle so
I really quite enjoy that I’m finding
I’m able to be a bit more creative
because I do have to think about things
a little bit more but we got this
lighter band it came with like a medium
band
tons of stuff you can do here too you
guys you can do kind of just like a row
that just feels so good and you want
more resistance you go up a little bit
further make it tighter or you can
switch what level of band you’re using
and also do some of these guys figure
out with their pals baseball’s
baseball’s yeah like you would do with a
rope and you could do it with a rope as
well yes we got this sock ham with the
green the blue the orange you going to
saw me doing the shoulder press with the
red and now we have a really hard one
the purple one if you guys watched my
last video I did share with you my full
leg workout which was a lot of band work
so check that out if you haven’t it’s my
Easter vlog um these I even do hip
thrusts with this band I don’t use her
much because it’s so heavy it’s so
intense but I like doing kind of like a
hip thrust action with these and again
to change the resistance
I can change my body placement how much
pressure is on the band
and this isn’t the only way you can do
it against polls there’s tons of
different ways you can get creative but
so we got that full set of bands
we’re like 45 bucks so that alone to add
into your home workouts you can really
do just about everything you need now
things like chest I haven’t talked about
yet push-up so you can do without any
equipment right and I’m building up my
strength with push-ups something Jason
does because he can do push-ups for days
he’ll add a resistance band around him
while he does push-ups it probably is a
lighter band but for something like
push-ups which are great those should be
in your routine right now you’re just
gonna put it on your back you could even
just do this you guys right it’s kind of
a little bit of a chest press notion
there
all right
oh my gosh that’s hard
so that band against my back isn’t
adding that resistance not as much when
I’m going down but more so when I’m
coming up and holding it up whoo so a
lot of you guys in Fitness are used to a
cable machine doing cable movements
using a rope very cheap way to recreate
that grab yourself a rope this is our
dog toy that we had bought for probably
like 10 bucks or so just a perfect
little rope here you can add it onto
your band’s these ones I like you doing
it like this a little tricep action
now you could do this without the rope
of course but it does give me a kind of
that different hand placement so with
the rope that does just provide a little
bit more variety giving you a different
range of motion a different type of grip
strength I know for myself grip strength
is huge it’s something we don’t tend to
purposely work on but this is a great
time to work on your grip strength so
different types of handles and things
like that are also gonna help you with
your grip strength so I showed you just
doing the band before but you could do
the face rope pulls and this actually
feels better with the rope but just
feels like a more natural range of
motion there you could also move your
band up higher and really do I’m not
gonna move this right now but kind of
doing your tricep press down that’s
another option with the rope which is
really nice and with the rope it allows
you to kind of get that squeeze on the
bottom of the other item that you
probably have lying around at home and
don’t even need to pay for it’s just
some type of pull you could remove this
from a broom up anything really this is
really lightweight but using it to
attach to your resistive dance again
changing whatever kind of resistance you
want allows you to do so many different
things and they’re doing the same face
pull motion
I can do a press down with it the other
thing I’ve seen people do if you don’t
have resistant bands or dumbbells is
taking like weighted buckets on the side
of this buckets laundry detergent just
kind of home objects things like that
that you could do for just like a
deadlift replacement really just picking
stuff up and off the floor is a good
workout right that’s essentially what
deadlifts are so you can get creative
with what you have at home if you can’t
afford to buy things like dumbbells –
you may not need this option but for us
being in the basement I do like having a
yoga mat you don’t need a Lululemon yoga
mat this is more of a cheeky one that I
got of Amazon the repot brand nice thick
perfect yoga mat to lay down do your
mobility work – you’re stretching I’ve
been doing a lot of planks and a lot of
core work and I also use this mat
because I don’t have a bench so when I
use dumbbells I’m doing a lot of
movements off the floor so I like having
this love doing chest press off the
floor it’s just a great movement I used
to do these in the gym as well so you
can do your chest press you can do your
flies
the other one I really like that I
always forget the name of is um you’re
just really focusing on your core
strength sitting on the floor again we
don’t have a bench or anything like that
so we’re doing everything in our
basement Jim’s standing or sitting on
the ground so just doing one of these
movements you’d be amazed to put a great
workout this is it really focuses you on
engaging your core it requires you to
focus on engaging your core and really
just using that set shoulder I love this
one so another thing we use to kind of
mimic some stuff you can’t do directly
on the floor so we got creative we have
a couch that we normally put out on the
deck in the summertime so we remove the
cushions from them to utilize it when
we’re lifting so one movement I like to
do off here is for your knees pullovers
so for lap pullovers and again these are
just questions so I have to be careful
but it gives me that height I need so
I’m not on the floor and cost us no
money because we already had cushions
laying around the house so you could get
creative and use other home items that
you have but if you have some stable
cushions that you could even grab off
your couch that’ll kind of help mimic a
bench and in a way it forces you to
again use a little bit more core
strength than you normally would because
you’re not relying on that flat surface
it’s almost like having a BOSU ball
where it’s almost a little bit wobbly so
you end up working more of those
stabilizer muscles I also have a thicker
buff bunny band this is the medium sized
band but they do sell these in
light/medium and
heavy for the medium this one I like
because it’s got the rubber grip right
there so I use this one in particular
more for a lower body I like to add that
on as a warm-up for glutes so I do my
sometimes I just do bodyweight squats
really helps push out my knees and get a
little bit more burn in the lower body
I’ll do warm-ups with it I’ll even do
some kind of like hip style stuff with
doing some jump squats and the other
thing I like to do with these two for
inner and outer thighs you can really
hit enter and outer thighs it’s great
with the bands you guys especially with
the pole but sometimes I’ll just kind of
come down into a squat give it a little
squeeze come up and it looks like I’m
not doing much but it’s yeah it’s killer
so you can get a set of these bands as
well relatively affordable from buff
money collection now this last one is
something I like Jason actually quite a
long time ago but you can still get
these in relatively cheap we have here a
pull-up bar and usually it’ll come in a
set sometimes with other items ours came
with a jump rope so another cheap option
you guys for getting your cardio and if
you don’t feel like running outside you
want to stay indoors but still get in a
little cardio or maybe even just keep
your heart rate up in between sets
throw in some jump group jumper I’m
Canadian a run some jump rope
throw in some jump rope in between sets
that will help keep your heart rate up
which I’ve just kind of really been
enjoying to do in my home atmosphere
I’ve been working out kind of a last
duration of time in the gym I used to
probably be there an hour hour and a
half and I’m more condensing things to
4050 minutes and just keeping it moving
so up to you you don’t have to do it
that way I just enjoy it cuz I’m kind of
trying to capitalize and make the most
of my time good morning thank you it was
a while ago that we bought this but I
think it was like 40 50 bucks I will try
to find something to link below for you
guys but this is great because you can
do pull-ups with it obviously and as I
mentioned with the fans you can do the
different hand variation so for myself I
do neutral grip but then I also do just
regular grip as well you could do
underhand grip if you want and then the
other thing we do too is you can even I
like to hang as a stretching mechanism
so you can hang sometimes I hang just in
the morning to like kind of it’ll
naturally crack my back it just feels
good to hang and also we do ABS off this
so same idea you hang off it you can do
the lower leg raise
you can me up kick them to the side all
kinds of stuff so we’ll do ABS off of
this as well so very limited stuff not
really a ton of different stuff I shared
with you guys but really a lot of
options within some very with with some
very inexpensive equipment and obviously
this is part of the house but something
I wanted to mention because a lot of
people have access to stairs we don’t
have a ton of stairs going into our
basement but it’s enough that I will use
that for cardio just running up and down
believe it or not you keep doing it you
get rather you get a rather good workout
from doing that and the other thing for
us having the big basement I am a loser
I’ll skip around I play some good music
and I dance around move around and
that’s my cardio you guys it doesn’t
have to be so in a little tiny box if
you go to a gym and you do your 30
minutes on a treadmill it doesn’t have
to be that way and I think that’s what’s
so cool about what we can learn from
right now and what we can take as a
positive is learning to be creative
getting
outside of these stupid little boxes and
really just accessing you know the
simpler things in life and I’m having a
great time doing it so I shared with you
guys a lot of different items I’ll do my
best to link them below and I just want
to encourage you to have fun with this
if you can’t afford any of these items
that’s okay too there are still ways to
get in a good workout
maintain your fitness or even if you’re
a beginner this is a great time to start
working on your fitness journey all
within your privacy of your own home
which is really great I’m actually
really loving coming downstairs in the
morning some days I look cute and my
little buff bunny outfit and then other
days I roll out of bed in my pajamas and
I’m like yeah this will work I’m gonna
work out my pajamas today and that’s
kind of the beauty of it that and the
amount of time for myself I’ve gained
back not driving to the gym and back
every day but I just want to encourage
you guys to get creative even if you
grab a thing of resistant bands one set
of dumbbells there’s so much you can do
from home so I hope you’re doing the
best you can with it during this time
you guys have any questions or concerns
let me know ask me down below and I’ll
keep sharing with you guys some of my
home workouts lives things like that cuz
I know you’ve been liking them I hope
you guys found this video helpful I will
say Jason and I do plan on actually kind
of building our home gym if you will a
little bit more because quite honestly
when the gyms open back up I do still
plan to work out from home because
that’s how much I’m enjoying it and I do
like having the accessibility of doing
it with my own home within my own home
so we do plan to continue to build and
and get some other things hopefully we
will get a barbell some plates things
like that but for now we’re both having
great workouts and you guys come too so
I hope you found the video helpful don’t
forget to hit the like button subscribe
make sure you’re subscribed some of you
guys still say I thought I was
scragged and I wasn’t so just check that
also hit the post notification bell so
you guys are notified each and every
time I upload and that’s it for me guys
hope you enjoyed and I’ll see you in the
next one
